Weekly Update 11/20/09
Lynn and Ryan
November 20, 2009
Good Afternoon:
Reminder: Please do not use an Amendment to the IEP form when adding a service. This form is for minor changes only. When multiple service changes are needed, a new IEP needs be written.
After much haggling with the State Dept., we do have to LIST the courses that a student will take the graduate on the IEP. We are looking at putting this on the IEP - a list of all the required by the State of Kansas. All you would have to add would be the electives. I have always thought this was redundant, time consuming, and could possibly get us in trouble when a student could not enroll in a class when stated that this is what would be taken. We will word it carefully.
Community Forum (color for Ryan and the Wildcats)
We would like to have a community forum for all itinerant staff (except School Psys. and SLPs) on Thursday, Dec. 3rd, at 2:00 in the afternoon in the SCKSEC conference room. Discussion has been that we have great staff but little knowledge of each others' roles.
We will start the second round of Community Forums after Christmas. December is so busy with programs, personal plans, etc. that we wanted to make the most of our time together so decided to postpone the next round until January.
State Department News
This e-mail was received on Wednesday as we were having our Transition workshop. This compliance review was from last January and the hard work done by Gail and all the teachers with students 14 years old or older. This e-mail is for all of you! :) Even with this, we are scheduled to go through another compliance check this year in January.
Dear Lynn,
Congratulations! Your district met the 100% compliance target set
by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) for Indicator
13, Secondary Transition, of the State Performance Plan (SPP):
Indicator 13: Percent of youth aged 16 and above with an IEP that
includes coordinated, measurable, annual IEP goals and transition
services that will reasonably enable the student to meet the
post-secondary goals.
KSDE has reviewed the documentation submitted by your district and
a determination has been made that the target of 100% compliance
has been met.
We appreciate your efforts in working to improve services for
children in Kansas.
Sincerely,
Wendy Blaauw
Education Program Consultant
Special Education Services
Indicator 14 has been met for last year. Greensburg was our only district that was chosen to participate. Indicator 14 is a post graduate survey to determine the employment or continuing education of our student. We are special because only special education students are surveyed to determine whether they are gainfully employed or continuing with their education.
