Mission and Services

        The SCKSEC Multidisciplinary Support Team (MST) is a group comprised of a school psychologist, special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapist, and physical therapist.

        The Team' primary mission is to provide support to students and to assist IEP teams in developing programs and strategies to enable students to reach their potential.

        These services include:

  • Classroom/school observations by appropriate MST members.
  • Team report with recommendations addressing specific concerns in the student's program.
  • Follow up with IEP team to assist with implementation of recommendations.
  • On-going consultation and assistance with the development of educational programs for students.

        Who is eligible to receive assistance?

  • Any student, teacher, or parent within the school districts served by SCKSEC

Staff Expectations

        What to expect from our Team:

  • Student observations which will result in recommendations to the IEP team.
  • Suggestions and strategies that are developed from evidence based practice.
  • A written summary of our observations and suggestions.
  • Follow-up visits as needed to provide staff with on going support.
  • Communication with parent to explain suggestions and strategies.

        What our Team requests from your IEP team:

  • Information - Completion of appropriate request forms, including your specific areas of concern.
  • Teamwork! - Your knowledge of the student is essential to the development of practical and effective strategies.
  • Perseverance - Very few strategies work immediately. They must be implemented for a sustained period of time.
  • Feedback - If strategies do not appear to be effective, we ask that you contact us to discuss revisions or alternate strategies.

Staff Training

    School districts can request staff training. The MST will provide in-service trainings targeted for teachers, paraprofessionals and other staff. Topics can include but are not limited to:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorders and other diverse learning needs
  • Instructional strategies
  • Use of visual/social skill strategies
  • Behavioral strategies
  • Sensory Integration issues
  • Communication strategies
  • Inclusion strategies
  • Make and take sessions

Kansas Instructional Support Network

        The SCKSEC Multidisciplinary Support Team was trained by KISN, which is funded through a grant from the KSDE Special Education Services. The project is administered by the Northeast Kansas Education Service Center in Lecompton, Kansas. For more information on Kisn, contact:

The Process

        Referral

  • IEP team, including parent, completes the MST Request for Assistance (available here); gives request to school psychologist.
  • School psychologist send Request for Assistance to MST Contact Person.

        Implementaion

  • MST schedules and completes student observation.
  • MST meets to develop recommendation and report for IEP team.

        Follow up

  • MST assists IEP team with implementation of recommendations, as needed.
  • MST case manager and student's primary provider meet with parent(s) to discuss recommendations.
